The only key is visualization.

Forcing Chess moves, by Charles Hertan is a great book on considering sacrifices and checks before anything else, which Kevin seemed to be struggling with. In the book, he calls it "using your computer eyes", since the computer doesn't care about material, and cares about the most forcing moves first. This seemed to be the main focus of the book and It helped me a lot with considering the most forcing moves first, rather than shying away because it seems to hang material. It is quite advanced, probably for around 1700-2200, but the first couple chapters are a bit easier because they are on checkmates. Also, it's on chessable, and forward chess, which is a plus.

I think the "beauty" you talked about is such a key point. If you see that double-check mate at the end of the last puzzle and your reaction isn't "Oh my god THAT IS SO COOL" something has to change!

Typically I hate when people interrupt during discussions but you were not bad at all during this video. 1) You did give enough him space to talk, 2) During any kind of learning, it's very beneficial for the learner to have immediate feedback for both correct and incorrect decisions (which you gave). I'd love to see more of this type of content!

your lesson videos are probably your best. Hard to explain just how many breakthroughs happen when I watch you teaching a student live - especially when they are similar to my level

Thanks Coach!

I really liked this. I paused the video, sweated and struggled right along, felt like I was being coached, and I felt like I was getting somewhere. I also bought one of your recommended books and plan on plugging through some chess games, in the hopes I can gain something substantial. I feel like I've just been spinning my wheels.
