rowan atkinson once said in an interview that the showwriters actually had and ending for the show ready when they wanted to end it, it went something like this: mr bean would be driving his car in the english countryside and suddenly see a spaceship landing in a field, he drives to the ship and sees an alien leaving the ship, the alien looks exactly like him, then 3 more appear and they all greet bean as if he's an old friend they haven't seen in a long time. then later bean enters the ship with his new friends and leaves his car behind.
the ending would later be used by the animated show of mr bean

I recently learned that the choir from the opening theme sings in Latin: "Ecce homo qui est faba". Translated, that means: "Behold the man who is a bean". And I think that's my favourite new thing I learned recently.

Mr Bean's girlfriend's name is Irma, if I remember rightly. I had "Mr Bean's Diary" in the 90s. Sadly, it was burned in 2014. Coincidentally, my entire house burned down at the same time.

The best gag in the book was about 8 pages of blank diary followed by the next two pages entirely taken up with the words "FOUND DIARY!!!".

4:18 I just want to mention that in the animated spinoff there was an entire episode where the blue car got tired of Bean and melisously stalked him the entire episode.

3:30 I remember my own personal interpretation as a kid was that I figured Mr Bean had effectively died some time before the beginning of each episode, but he annoyed God and everyone else in heaven so much, they chucked him back down to Earth, rinse and repeat.

This video has been pretty dark for a Mr. Bean video, so here's a nice anecdote: my mom migrated from the Dominican Republic to Switzerland after she married my father when I was a baby. She didn't speak German (my dad spoke Spanish and Italian so they could communicate) and they didn't have a TV with Spanish channels at the time. What did come on Swiss and German TVs was Mr. Bean reruns! Because of how the comedy of Mr. Bean works, my mom could watch it with my dad and understand everything and she absolutely loved it. Then when I grew up, we would watch Mr. Bean together. That's why the ol' Bean still has a special place in my heart and in our family.

My theory for Mr Bean is that he is an actual slapstick character put into a real world. I mean, the strange light from above is a stage-light, he looks like he is plopped into this world, and he somehow has skills despite his incompetence, his actions often have no consequences attached to them, and every else’s behaviour in the Mr Bean movie is so unlike Mr Bean. It also would explain his name, which sounds like it came from a writers room. This so this video sort of confirmed this idea for me, thanks for the video, it was really well put together and the editing was amazing!

I always thought that he was slammed down on earth via a beam of light with a choir singing in the background because the people in heaven found him so annoying and clumsy that God himself basically spat him out.

11:55 I personally got that message from the series and the movies. Especially if you see the movie "Mr.Bean on Holidays" (or something like that). You relate to him in a way. You're not evil or a bad person, but you have flaws. Mr. Bean embodies almost every part. It's not about why he has a girlfriend, but "you" might have/had a girlfriend and you relate to him when they go to the magic show or the club. When he doesn't know how to dance and he gets pushed off, you relate to him and when he shuts the lights off, you are actually rooting for him. He's the embodiment of a flawed human (mostly man) but he isn't evil. In the movie he helps a kid find his father but not intentionally, he "tries" to be kind, but he fails (he loses him, he gets sidetracked). In the series he takes care of a baby, left by his unaware mother (she isn't evil but yet failed to be attentive). You go to the church, you get bored, you might fall asleep. You're running late, you push the petal and risk a bit. You go to the beach by yourself but you need to change but also don't have anyone to see your stuff. You don't get invited to a party. You might not know how to do CPR. "Man's not evil, but flawed and alone" that's what I got from it. And of course they make it over the top, because again "...from the outside life's a comedy"
