i can't help but think calling ENA "red and blue" is deliberate rage bait bc i've not seen another soul call Meanie the "blue" side

Ena's skeleton being those wooden statue figure things that art students use for posing references does something for me personally, like Ena is only moved by other people around her for her main purpose

Great video, as always! Just a small thing I noticed: the idea that that along with absurdist philosophy came absurdist/surrealist art is a bit inaccurate. Absurdist philosophy in the classic sense (Camus) emerged in the 1940s. Surrealism started in the 1920s. And the painting shown at 2:41 is a “metaphysical” painting by De Chirico, which was painted i believe sometime in the 1910s. Surrealist art was grounded in Freud’s theory on dreams, unconscious desires, automatism, etc. - not in Camus’s absurd. On another tangent, De Chirico wasn’t even a surrealist. His metaphysical paintings were about capturing what’s “behind” what we see and aimed at revealing a deeper reality.

This doesn’t detract from your essay at all :) absurd in everyday speech means “strange” or “irrational”, and De Chirico’s art does looks strange and irrational, so it’s not uncommon for people to call it absurdist. Plus, ENA Dream BBQ seems to take inspiration from everything. It clearly is inspired by Surrealist art and perhaps does stage the conflict for our need for meaning vs a meaningless universe in the absurdist sense.

Just a little nitpick! I loved the video 🥰

There's a theory that Ena from Dream BBQ is a woman who either experienced or participated in a war, and that her village (Outworld Red) was attacked by diseases transmitted via fleas from seaplanes, explaining why there are fleas everywhere in Outworld Red, as well as on the planes (a reference to Operation PX, which used fleas infected with the plague bacillus via seaplanes). Another theory says that the doors/worlds represent significant moments in Ena's life, and that the lonely door seems to tell the story of Ena having a pregnancy and losing the child. I'm going to show the elements that support the idea that our character had a child. 1. The shaman who tells us to create life; when we succeed, he doesn't say we create, but that we have given birth to him. 2. There's also the immense embryo in the sky. 3. There's also the character of a cloud who constantly says that her child is the most important thing in her life. 4. The genie itself is a reference; it's a matryoshka doll. Now, it also seems to be suggested that our character had a miscarriage. Human Board appears dead, and in the trailer, Ena seems sad carrying it. Also, to bring it to life, he has to bury it on corpses or tombstones so that it grows. There's also the fact that during our adventure, the subject of sin and regret is often mentioned, showing that our character is consumed by regret. And to make matters worse, the theory suggests that Ena had the child due to... "rword," you know... and that this would be represented by the Purge, a party that ends with us drowning in a liquid, and the transition shows our character falling asleep, closing their eyes—"a character falling asleep due to a liquid at a party." A child she didn't want, she couldn't tell anyone because of the child's origins. SHE HAD TO FACE THIS ORDEAL ALONE, A SOLITARY ORDEAL. And this only resulted in the birth of an embryo in the toilet (an embryo being our first way to go to the bathroom in the game), and ultimately the toilet resembles a confessional. (Sorry for the bad English. If the theory interests you, I recommend Jal's video on Ena Dream BBQ. The video is in French, but automatic English subtitles are available.)

You need to watch the animated series as well to get an idea of some lore concepts.

16:27 Note to this, only the red side specifically talks about God, the mean side on some point literally says she doesn't believe in anything, I think it was while talking to the hoarder, the exact dialog was "dAmn it.. SHUT UP (transforms into a black man singing for a moment) You Know, I don't even Believe in anything, But You're Bleeding Out Some Real Bullshit Here, YOU'RE A FLUKE(?", some people believe that, in this ENA, both sides are a bit more mentally separated than just the emotions they show

Man you should definitely try out the game “Who’s Lila?”, I can’t really get into details because I don’t want to spoil the experience, but I am sure that you will enjoy it, and it’s quite short for the amount of things it delivers.
