"Kharn Sagara is flat" - I have to respectfully disagree; he is one of the best antagonists I have seen in awhile

Gotta push back on the Valka not being independent.
To keep it spoiler free, Hadrian literally aligns with what she is doing and they go about it together as their story develops. To say she follows Hadrian with little protest is reductive of her character, her relationship to Hadrian and their shared goal from book 1.

One small thing- at the end you say there is almost no women making decisions about battles- as far as I can remember every single battle planning has at least 2.

This series has been on TBR since I heard about. Glad to hear it's wrapping up where I can finally sit down and tackle it.

Sun Eater is fantastic. The mix of sci-fi and cosmic horror is peak!

I honestly don’t get why people say book one is similar to Dune. Aside from the story taking place in a Galactic Empire, and the protagonist being from one of the major houses, the actual story is nothing like Dune.

I think I forgive a lot of the Religious overtones in these books because we hear them from Hadrian's perspective. Even if they are Ruocchio's actual views, the lack of a third person narration makes it feel less preachy, at least to me. Where the books stand now spoilers for Disquiet Gods I feel like the books provide just as much 'evidence' for God as they do a scientific explanation. I also think they're asking the same question 40K does; what's the difference between an all-powerful being and a God at the end of the day? Shadows Upon Time may change this though.

Really interesting to hear a different perspective, but personally I haven't enjoyed a series of books this much since Malazan. Hoping Ruocchio sticks the landing and he's given me no reason to believe he won't

I heavily disagree with the wish fulfillment point. Yes, everything you listed is true and yet I would never want to be him, because I think Christopher takes a lot of time to show just how unpleasant and mentally damaging that is. Also, he is incredibly flawed, makes mistakes, and suffers a lot, if it was just wish fulfillment I feel like there would've been a lot less of that.

Having grown up in a very religious, very repressing family enviroment, for great part of my life I came to outright hate the very idea of religion, to the point of refusing to acknowledge or establish any kind of relationship with a religious person, I eventually came to the realization that this was not exactly healthy either. Several years later, while still basically agnostic, I am married with a christian woman who I love. So I think I can tolerate religious ideas in the context of a sci-fi story. What I will do is put a pin on this saga, and decide wether to read or not based on your review of the last book

Love this video! I’m such a sucker for first person sci-Fi and fantasy. There’s so much multi POV out there, I think that’s why I loved realm of the elderlings so much. Desperate to start sun eater!
