  I just moved to Shizuoka from Hawaii. The surfers here have been cool enough to me, maybe because I bring the Hawaii respect for locals or maybe because I'm one of the oldest surfers in the water ;-)

  I live in Chiba but I have surfed down in Miyazaki a few times. One funny thing I noticed was that if the locals drop-in on you, they will wave to you as a &quot;sorry&quot; gesture and you should return the gesture, this is meant to make their drop-in OK. But if you drop in on them and then give them a sorry wave, they give you the full stinkiest evil eye like you killed their dog or did the worst thing ever. So funny. <br>I saw one local drop-in on another local and the drop in guy did the sorry wave but the other local didn&apos;t return the wave and did the coldest look-away. He was 60 -70 y.o. but still ripping on a black carbon shortboard (respect). Too many longboarders around Aoshima /Kisakihama area, catching too many waves, but if you get up before sunrise, you can get some good waves.

  I grew up bodyboarding and learning to ride a longboard since the waves are small which is perfect since i love cruising, been to aoshima area thrice. Very mellow i love it. I love Miyazaki 🇵🇼❤️🇯🇵🌊✌️

  I&apos;ve been living in Kumamoto, Japan (other side of Kyushu from Miyazaki) and I don&apos;t surf, but I enjoyed your talk about surfing and surfing culture. &nbsp;I play Japanese traditional music and have experienced many of the same things with regard to being someone different in a local place. &nbsp;Keep up with your content guys. &nbsp;I look forward to more.

  Sick jalama hat! One of my favorite places in the world, maybe I’ve met y’all out there before!<br>Locals all over Chiba were incredibly cool the three months I spent there. Even had some people take me out for lunch or show me their shop. And most surprising to me was my friend calling me to come sit at the peak on a crowded day and get some set waves, which has never been the vibe in my experience anywhere else. vibes were immaculate. Stoked to spend some time on Kyushu soon. Cheers, great video.
