No joke, I had a History test today and the title at the top said "1960s: The Test" and I wrote & Knuckles underneath. Curious to see what the teacher thinks

Being a 5 year old in 1994 sonic 3 and knuckles was the greatest thing ever!!! And if I’m honest it is still my favourite game to this day and I am now 33

I'm sure that part of my reason for preferring Sonic 2 over 1 is due to having played 2 first - the Genesis + Sonic 2 bundle was my first game console back in 1992 (I had just turned 4). I didn't get to play Sonic 1 until after Sonic 3 had been released, so not having access to what had become the norm in terms of QoL features and other gameplay elements made the game more difficult. I still enjoy it for what it is though. Sonic 3 & Knuckles definitely hits home as the "epic" of the classic collection, but because 2 was my first I'll always find more joy in it (I recently started learning the speed run for it). I didn't get the chance to play Sonic CD until it came out on PC in 1996 - Metal Sonic always freaked me out as a child but I grew to appreciate it later on, especially after playing it again on Sonic Gems Collection.

Regarding getting all the Emeralds in Emerald Hill, I didn't think it was possible getting them all in Act 1 because of how the game flags checkpoints as "used". The game's also nasty in that if you hit a checkpoint at a later point in a level and try to come back to an earlier one you missed, it will also be flagged as "used". Maybe there's some sort of resetting option I'm not aware of in the Retro Engine ports.. I know there are enough checkpoints between acts 1 and 2 though.

Finally, thank you for the longform video! I hope you're able to get your Genesis up and running again. Otherwise Analogue has their Mega Drive-design Mega Sgs back in stock as an alternative. And Sonic 2 was a lot of fun! Made me feel like a kid again seeing that ending play out in a theater. Have a wonderful day!✨

Fun Fact: In the Chemical Plant Zone boss, as Sonic, you can actually crouch to avoid ever getting hit by the blue liquid that eggman dumps onto you. This only works as Sonic though, since Tails' hitbox doesn't shift down enough when he crouches to avoid it.
