Santo Trafficante one of the most underrated mafia dynasties. One of the rare instances of the son being just as, if not more influential than the father. Happy to see you upload.

Moved from orlando to ruskin in ‘94. Since then lived all over hills county, with so much cultural influence in tampa bay, which I love, and also fascinated with mafia families as a kid, growing up here I always thought to myself “Tampa surely had mob ties back in the day.” Its a very unassuming city. Cant wait to hear this!

I grew up in Tampa in the 60s and 70s. My grandfather used to count the Bolita money and when the mafia came to pick up the “earnings” my dad would run and hide in the avocado tree in the backyard. My grandfather’s name is in a few old newspapers regarding Bolita. In my early 20s I worked for a relative of Jimmy Carter, Calvin Carter, who was an insurance broker and he had an office on the third floor of a building in the Spaghetti Warehouse courtyard in Ybor. The 2nd floor was where the cigar rollers worked and there were also gift shops. On the first floor there were more gift shops along with the Rough Riders (Teddy Roosevelt) restaurant. I actually had the honor of having lunch one time with Roland Manteiga (La Gaceta newspaper) at the Tropicana. My family line immigrated from the Canary Islands to Cuba to Key West and finally Tampa. My father taught me many great Cuban recipes and had quite a few Trafficante’ stories.

My Grandmother (God rest her soul) was the bookkeeper for a car dealership on Hillsborough Ave.. back in the 50’s and 60’s Trafficante would come in and trade out his vehicles. He would bring her fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. My mom remembers her telling her to enjoy these because they’re Mafia veggies 😂❤

I was born in Ybor City in 1956. My family goes back 5 generations in Florida. My brother was a cop in Tampa in the 70's and I learned a lot about the mafia during that time. I knew where some of them lived. My sister-in-law was Cuban/Italian. Her father had a grocery store in Ybor City. He was very frightened of the mob there.
