I try to be fair on this channel. I welcome those who would disagree to respectfully and thoughtfully share their issues. But then you have viewers like @tileslasher. About 24 hours ago, he came into my house and basically called me an idiot and attacked me (and several other viewers) with all the vitriol of the trolls that permeate social media.

I have blocked him from the channel because he has:

1) Proven he cannot follow simple directions when posting.
2) Proven he wants to insult everyone who disagrees with him.

This post will remain pinned to the comments section in hopes that it will serve as a warning to those who want to try and pick a fight. I do not suffer fools lightly. And as a reminder, if you are going to show up at a battle of the wits, please don't show up unarmed, like @tileslasher did!

If you interacted with this clown, I am sorry you had to endure that...it is sad there are people like that in the world. Being respectful and thoughtful when you disagree is important. Those who cannot abide by that do not deserve the stage. Adios Frank!

I work for Cadillac.... we see a lot more L87 engine failures than battery pack failures. In fact, all of the battery pack failures we see are because we cannot update the BMS software in the BMS's in the pack. They give erroneous high voltage messages due to a software glitch so the have to go back to GM for them to update the BMS software. Cost of a Lyriq battery replacement under warranty is about $4800. The warranty cost for an L87 engine replacement on an Escalade is $10k-$11k. ...go figure.

I bought my used 2016 Ford focus ev compliance car in nov '24. It was a lease for a business and sat for a while after the lease expired. Only had 4500 miles. Now has about 9000 miles on it. Range is rated at 76 miles but in the summer it charges to 88 miles. No degredation.

I was talking with my neighbor who inherited his mother's Lexis hybrid car 2022. The car is 4 years old and he sold that to his dealership for 12K on a trade in for a dodge Ram truck. His rational for trading it in was that he did not want to have to pay $4000 to replace the battery pack, if he kept the car, used it and got rid of it later. That was his fear. He thought about the battery potential and not understanding that if the battery failed, you would still have the car run by the engine. He also does not realize that they have made prius cars for over 20 years and the battery packs don't totally crap out. There is a cost to ignorance.

I blame air cooled batteries in Nissan leafs for part of the fear.

It's a pity that you didn't say you were specifically talking about NMC batteries. There are important differences with LFP batteries that you did not cover. But worth the watch and thanks for putting it out there.

I worked at an EV OEM. I completely agree. While there can always be premature failures, as with engines in an ICE vehicle, in most cases, the battery will outlive the vehicle. Thanks Jim.

I was skeptical before I bought an EV. All those thoughts went through my head too but after 60k miles in my Bolt EUV I could never ever go back to an ICE vehicle

The funny thing about people who hate EVs and hate on the batteries.... They have Zero Ev experience... They Always make claims, but never ever have any actual evidence to support their claims.
Meanwhile, they ignore the 100k lifespan of their Engines trans and coolant systems... When a new Engine Trans is needed it costs significantly more
So does the routine maint programs on these vehicles...

However, ignorance creates fear.. Fear creates anger
then its Anakin striking down younglings to save Diesel.

My 2013 Tesla Model S 85 had 200k miles on it and still charged to 72kW when I sold it in June 2025. Car didn’t have a single rattle or quirk when I sold it for $12,500 at the time. I have a 2025 Tesla M3 LR AWD now.
