3 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer and had to give up my chickens and garden as I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it with dose dense act infusion chemo... Now it's 3 years later and I'm all clear with new baby chicks and excited to grow what I know and love will work for us! Ty you guys for keeping me inspired during tough times ❤

I used to get defensive when people called me a prepper but after this past year, I'm not ashamed anymore. I am preparing because the world is changing and if we don't learn to be sufficient we are going to struggle

I would recommend you still keep a label on the bucket and the lid especially for the wheat berries incase you ever open 2 buckets at the same time. Working in a lab… trust me we never put labels on the Lids only.

Growing up Mennonite I think we took for granted the amount of prepping we did/do this homesteading and prepping era we’re in today kinda took me for a loop. I finally started realizing how different I was raised than the general population, people actually don’t have food in the house for more than a week 🤯 but then again I’m geared towards a year’s supply not years.. so maybe I’m not a prepper 😉

Here’s a simple tip to make brown rice really delicious: toast it first in a little olive oil over medium heat, stirring often, until it smells like buttery popcorn. Then add your water and salt, cook for about 5 minutes less than recommended, turn off the heat, and let it sit covered to steam for at least 10 minutes. The texture turns out perfect and the flavor is so much better. Brown basmati is my favorite, but long grain works well too.

Idea for the brown rice—use some as the filler for heat packs. You can use a sock, fill it with rice, and sew the end up. Or sew pieces of fabric together and fill with the rice. They make excellent Christmas gifts!

You can get free soil tests from your Extension Office. I am a master gardener and all Extension Offices offer this service. You can take multiple samples from each garden area. Hugs❤

Maybe cook the brown rice and give it to your chickens.

I want you to know I’ve watched since the adrenal fatigue days building your house, stretched so thin. You two are an example of balance in life and I could not be more proud and wish you both the best.

Your chickens will LOVE the brown rice. No need to even cook it
