Doesn't matter if he, and other shooters, aren't in the Guinness Book. He will never be forgotten as the king of fast draw...

There was a TV program where he was tested with state of the art (at that time) equipment for speed and the end result was there was no man known with faster hands. He could draw a gun, fire at two balloons, 6 feet apart, hit both, and you can only hear one shot. It's on the internet look it up.

I met Bob Munden sometime in the 1990s. He was doing a shooting and fast draw exhibition for a car dealership in Sierra Vista, AZ. It was a great show, and after the first show of the day, absolutely no one approached him as he was standing around. Naturally, I took the opportunity to talk to him. He was very nice, and we chatted for almost an hour, since he had nothing else to do. We talked about guns, people we knew in common, (I was friends with Wess Flowers, an actor, stuntman, Hollywood gun coach, and member of my church, who had been the World Champion Fast Draw, and tried to get me into fast draw competition). Bob Munden was one of those people who others thought they were braggarts, but were actually modest compared to what he could actually do.

Mr. Bob was a true western gentleman. We will never have another gunman like him. I met him and spoke to him several times on the phone he loved to talk guns. The day he passed away was a sad day.

I had Bob tune a first generation Colt for me in 2011, the action is unbelievably smooth. I was able to chat at length with the man on a couple of occasions. I will never sell my Mundenized Colt, and will eventually hand it on to my son to enjoy.

I had the privilege of watching his demonstration in Kalispell Montana at snappy sports. I don't remember exactly the year other than it was before 2007.

Even standing there you could barely tell it was 2 shots on balloons. He repeated it several times and told a little about what he was doing. Jaw dropping.

RIP Bob.

I had the pleasure of meeting and shooting with Bob back in the 90s. He and Becky were absolutely outstanding people. And DAMN he was fast!

Heart attack on that little road, I can see and feel it. Something about that Big Sky, lonely, but peaceful, evokes the nostalgia of a childhood spent traveling between southeast Idaho and northwest Montana. Time can stand still out there, not unlike the expanse of Texas but immeasurably more beautiful to me. Thank you for this story. Makes me want to pick up Dad’s old early edition Ruger 357 and get to work….. 😊.
