That little stunt with the Bren gun was absolutely spiteful, very daring.

I walked the Kokoda trail in 2001. It is a nightmarishly difficult trail to navigate. Mud, mosquitos, leeches and ridiculous terrain. Those men were tough as nails.

That 'Banzai' charge by C Company must've been quite suddenly shocking for the Imperial troops before the survivors retreated. This was quite the grinding back and forth, the Australian and Paupuan defenders gave their all.

My pa was on the trail as an aircraft mechanic serving in these forward airbases, and my mother later hiked the trail to honor him. Even now it's still a dangerous path to take with temporary bridges that must be rebuilt and guides needed for safety - trying to fight a war over it seems outright absurd. The Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels were remembered for this aid they gave during the battle.

It must have been crazy to be one of the civilians living in these little villages. You are just some dude living in the middle of nowhere in a traditional hut, born in the 1800's in the mountains of Papua, living life, and then two huge empires show up and start filling the jungle full of machine gun fire.

As a Brit, thank you Australia for your sacrifices. And I'm bloody glad you were on our side! You lot sound terrifying and fearless in war.

"This terrain is too steep and unforgiving. There is no way that the Japanese could move through it to attack us."<br><br>a disastrous assumption that would lead to many repeated mistakes during the Burma campaign. If anyone is interested, Lord Hardthrasher has just begun his second season of videos focusing on the Burma campaign. Really is an excellent watch.
