  Ryan&apos;s dad here. Pretty wonderful to share him with the world. He is exactly what you saw on this podcast--a genuine, mature, honest, deep-feeling, caring, connected, thoughtful man. I could not be more proud. <br><br>To those of you who have been kind to Ryan (almost everyone), thank you. Nothing means more to me than Ryan&apos;s safety and happiness.<br><br>If I could give one little shout-out to the MSpodcast universe, it would be for Ryan&apos;s mom, my truly amazing wife. She adores Ryan. He comes first before her comfort. She is a beautiful human being, AND, this is terribly uncomfortable and sad for her. She is a very private person and her life feels on display. She knew this was coming but did not try to stop it, in spite of the pain and attention it would bring. She knew Ryan needed to own his own story in this way, even if it meant her story also became public as a consequence.<br><br>Her life&apos;s work, raising her children connected to Christ through the LDS church, is falling apart publicly. Even if that does not resonate with you; even if that seems somehow silly... that is her painful reality. It is devastating. <br><br>Please don&apos;t try to deconstruct it. Don&apos;t correct her feelings. Just offer up love, compassion, or prayers in your heart for her. She deserves it. She is the graceful, classy lady Ryan described.<br><br>Thank you beautiful people.

  I stayed for 2 years after losing my faith - thinking it would be good for my family. Finally the racism, homophobia, sexism and coverups of abuse made me realize &quot;It&apos;s not only &quot;not true;&quot; it&apos;s also &quot;not good.&quot;<br><br>That&apos;s when we left.

  I was in Ryan’s ward in MO. Everyone in their family are wonderful humans. I really admire Ryan’s courage coming out and being his authentic self to the world on this podcast. Your parents did do a great job, I can not wait to see want your future holds . I know it will be wonderful!

  I am appalled that I ever once accepted &nbsp;this type of shame and abuse. I lied for years so that I wouldn’t disappoint or shame my family! &nbsp;The thought that I once saw this as normal. &nbsp;Living with intense &nbsp;guilt for almost 60 years! &nbsp;😮

  Ryan has a much stronger sense of self than I did at that age. I really love that for him. He&apos;s very thoughtful, articulate and gracious. I hope he has an awesome life, wherever it leads.

  66 year old ex Mormon here. Really enjoyed this interview, Ryan was a joy and an inspiration to listen to. I love hearing how supportive his parents were during his journey and still are. Thanks for having him on!

  I talked openly with local leaders about my “personal concerns” before when I was younger. Dad found out and he was pissed at me about why I was “having issues” before the mission. I clammed right up and told him that I needed to take care of personal things. He tried to force it out of me. I held my guard. I tried so hard to keep myself together… I felt very alone. Long story short… I did go. I gave it my best shot. Tried to take care of my companions as best as I could. Came back. Finished schooling. Have not gone back since graduation. Living my life quietly nowadays.

  I work with a guy who when he started was clearly in a similar position. I asked him where he went to school, and he said BYU, then said, &quot;but I&apos;m not a big fan of the school&quot; but strongly implied &quot;but I&apos;m not a big fan of the religion&quot; Poor kid was almost embarrassed to admit it, and in a professional setting, I couldn&apos;t really say &quot;I get it, I used to be Mormon too.&quot;

  I love this young man! I also love the relationship he has with his parents! Kudos to his parents for letting him have his own beliefs. This is healthy.
