  I think the biggest surprise of the switch 2 is that it was actually called “The Nintendo Switch 2” wholesale.

  Well the original Xbox was so called because it used a version of Direct X for it's rendering, so it was the Direct X Box, shortened to Xbox.  Which is the most sense any of their naming conventions since have been.

  Thank you thank you thank you for pointing out how unnatural the “GCN” abbreviation is. I would’ve preferred “N-GC” with a dash if they really had to give it an original one.

  I think a main reason they specifically named it the "Nintendo" Switch, is because unlike basically every other Nintendo console, "Switch" is just an english word, which I'm sure would have had some trademarking issues, if just left alone. Same reason why Hasbro will name certain transformers things like, "Autobot-Jazz" instead of just "Jazz" because "Jazz" is a hard word to trademark on its own.
