  I might be a nobody with tens of fans but I not only own my music but I also have total control over it, for better or worse.

  When Paul McCartney was working with Michael Jackson Paul told him what a great investment owning music was and how the mechanics of it worked.  Then the Beatles catalog came up for sale and MJ out bid McCartney to buy it.  The sale price was $45 million.

  the music 'business' has ALWAYS been a dirty business. All slanted to enrich the 'record company', publishers, producers etc. . Artists are a commodity.

  I own my own studio, publishing and masters. Ownership is leverage... I'm an ASCAP member who's still getting royalties from old projects I wrote...

  My cousin had a studio and he would always say 'own your own masters, publishing etc.' Ownership is the keyword. If you don't have the capital to own,  find a way to get instead of getting from any label. The horror stories I heard from him was insane.
