Theodora didn’t just teach Marin how to fix machines. She taught her how to look at broken things differently. That kind of gift lasts forever.❤❤❤

This is a very good story. One little girl seeing a future at 14 with 3.00 in change.

What a beautiful story with such a meaningful lesson. It reminds us never to judge someone too quickly. I really enjoyed how everything came together in the end.

I had a similar experience when I obtained a Singer Sewing Machine whilst I was hoping to
use it to ensure that I could make clothes for myself and my newly born daughter. How
disappointed I was when the machine would not work because a special spring for the
sewing operation was missing. After much thought I tried several small springs and found
that these just would not work. As a last resort I used a bent hair grip and was asbsolutely
delighted to find that this actually worked. I used this machine constantly for five years
when I had saved enough money to buy a new machine. I gave the machine away to someone
who asked if I wanted to sell it, I did not, but I gave it as a gift. Since that time my machine
experience has been to ensure that I saved and ensured that I was able to make my Daughter
clothes for wearing to her 18th birthday as well as many other dresses during her years
she was at home. Now she is able to do all her own clothes and alterations etc. and I find
this very rewarding. I am now ensuring that I make items for my Great Grandson as well
as maintaining garments for myself. This is a hobby worth progressing and it gives me a
very important feeling of success especially when people ask where it was purchased.

At that time a sewing machine was a major appliance and a neccesity. It wasn’t women who sewed, it was every single household. Plenty men sewed, it was a needed life skill.

I like to sew on my antique Singer sewing machines the most. They are easy to clean and lube. The problem we have in my area of Kentucky is that good sewing machine repair shops are too far away. When I have two or more machines that need repairs, I will make those lone drives (one drive there to drop off, and another drive there to pay and pick-up). Those old antique all metal sewing machines are keepers; because, they were built to last. If you sew, keep your machines clean, lubed, change the needles often, and use them.

To know vintage machines and to use them is to love them.

This is the way I look at fabric , I touch it run my fingers through it! I start picturing of what I can make out of it! I can imagine it done ! A salesperson heard me talking to myself, she asked me if I needed help , I responded no ma’m just having a hay day in Joann’s just like a kid in a candy store! It’s like the lady taught her it’s not what’s broken but how can I fix it ! My mother’s first sewing machine was a treadle , we learned from her , to sew & can food ! These stories shouldn’t be forgotten they’re memories !

Nice story, and those old machines are still able to be used today.
