the fact that this house was listed for almost 7 mil recently and now down to 1 mill is just crazy.. the people who bought it stole everything of value and now are trying to sell it off... shame on them

I hope whoever bought it for $800,000 this week can truly afford it. It probably has $4-5M in necessary repairs, updates, etc. In addition, in Detroit taxes are based on property value…not the price paid, so they will be very high. The worst thing that could happen to the neighborhood is that someone thinks ‘they got a deal’. Fingers crossed it went into good & wealthy hands. 🤞

Catholics are huge in Detroit. They built many churches and houses throughout Detroit including colleges, Detroit Mercy, and Marygrove College.

Nice promo video. Been by the outside in the past, would be nice to see actual condition of interior, without the AI.

Would expect delayed maintenance (the worst). Condos or, a combo home/business with live-in security?

The famous Fisher Brothers of Fisher Body had this home build for the Archbishop, not the Church.

One of the conditions of the sale is the new owner must wear identical "plugs".

The Catholic Church did not have the Bishop Michael J. Gallagher mansion built and designed. That was the Fisher family. The Fisher family hired Maginnis and Walsh to design the mansion not, the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The Bishop Michael J. Gallagher Mansion in Detroit's Palmer Woods Historic District was built by the auto baron Fisher brothers between 1925 and 1928 as the official residence for the city's Catholic bishop.

Designed by the Boston firm Maginnis & Walsh, it features Sicilian marble columns, custom European woodwork, and extensive Pewabic tilework. It also includes a rare second-floor Gothic-inspired private chape.

The current residence of the Archbishop of Detroit is in the Arden Park historic area. The area across Woodward from Boston-Edison. The Archbishop lives in the old John H. Dodge mansion. It is adjacent to the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Woodward and Trowbridge.
