  Dr. Betzig is exactly the type of professor that universities need to encourage ALL students in STEM, yet gets forced out of academia due to illogical dogmas, and silly, petty jealousies, most likely due to his unfiltered frankness in expressing himself.

  Betzig’s opening minute hits the exact structural blind spot of modern modeling: those glossy animations of molecular motors strolling down empty microtubules are pure narrative hallucinations. A living cell isn&apos;t a clean machine shop; it&apos;s a crowded Brownian furnace of 10 billion proteins and 100 trillion water molecules slamming together at 100 m/s. The textbook diagram isn&apos;t wrong about the local mechanism, but it completely leaves out the dense medium the mechanism has to survive in.<br>​That disconnect is precisely why 91% of drug candidates fail between Phase I and Phase III.   I love Eric. lol Years back he sat at our table during a breakfast before a talk he was going to give on light sheet microscopy at a workshop. At the time I hadn&apos;t realized it was Eric. Every other words was what my mommy would have put a proverbial bar of soap in my mouth. But his genuineness and enthusiasm were unmistakable. Here was this Nobel laureate standing at the podium showing this breathtakingly beautiful image of a drosophila brain zoomed in on a synapse and the audience amazed and him going with a big smile &quot;fucking awesome, right?&quot; Indeed Eric it is fucking awesome. lmao

  I love this guy. I am a Critical Care Physician. Relative to Dr. Betzig, I am small potatoes. Yet, he is my type of scientist and human being. &nbsp;He is inspiring and makes me want to maverick my way into answering research questions. &nbsp;Medical research is essentially conformist. I always thought it was due to the fact that it was medicine and the IRB committee. &nbsp;It’s scary hearing that all fields are being crushed by the peer review and grant seeking process. Great interview!
