  My new personal headcannon is that Dess got trapped in the world darker than the dark world after being led/manipulated by Friend, and her body is being possessed by Friend (FriendInsideMe) while Dess’ mind is trapped in the code screaming for help, all the while Gaster is watching the Soul do a let’s play while snacking on popcorn

  I like this theory simply because reducing the number of creepy spooky evil cryptid beasties down from 3-4 to 1-2 feels a LOT more manageable, and actually makes the knight very, very, scary

  I think Friend is like a middleman carrying out orders because Gaster is unable to interact with the Deltarune world directly. So handing out Shadow Crystals is still Gaster’s idea, he just needs someone else to actually do it for him
