I worked for a custom boot maker here in Comanche Texas by the name of Eddie Kimmel. We made Merle a pair of custom boots and presented them to him on his bus at Billy Bob's. What very few people know about Merle was that he had one leg shorter than the other. He wanted the extra height of the boot to be inside, so no one would know. He was a very good man. The pulls on the boots were shaped like guitars and had HAG stitched into them. I still have pics of those boots

IMO this video showcases the greatest country singer in his prime giving an amazing performance. What a gift we can watch this live performance.

A significant part of America died when Merle passed. Of course his talent and impact is obvious, but I think more symbolically. He embodied America: resiliency, second chance, faith, down-home common sense. I saw Merle twice in very small markets and I'm so glad I did back in the day.

They don't make country singers like this anymore. Solid country gold!

I lived not very far from Merle in northern California. I got to see him several times. No words can describe who he was and what he was. He was a very humble and extremely talented musician, singer, songwriter. This generation of country music entertainers was the definition of country music. They are almost all gone. Just a few left.

Merle was an unusual talent, he could Mimic other country stars and if you looked away you would swear it was that person singing.

A little piece of me died when my mom told me Merle had passed away. My daddy raised me with a love for the greats. This was recorded the year I was born. I was made fun of in junior high because I listened to this and not New Kids on The Block. We need Merle in country music now more than ever!
