  About Fern and the colour green: she&apos;s not named after the plant. She is named after the German word Fern, which can be translated as far (away).

  Here some translations of these German words: <br>- frieren -&gt; being/feeling cold (potentially also frozen in time in this case) <br>- himmel -&gt; sky/heaven <br>- heiter -&gt; tipsy/happy <br>- Eisen -&gt; iron (potentially hard/resilient as iron in this case) <br>- fern -&gt; distant/far away <br> <br>These words basically reflect the characters who have been given them as names.

  The part where she cries over not having gotten to know Himmel better absolutely devastated me the first time I watched this. A few years ago I lost both of my parents. For years I wanted to sit down with both of them and record all their stories since I only have my patchwork memories of bits and pieces I&apos;d heard from them growing up. I never got around to it because college and life got in the way, and I had plenty of time, right? Every moment you share with those around you is valuable, no matter how trivial.<br><br>I feel the loss most often when I experience a piece of media that I know either of them would have enjoyed. My father was more of a down to earth mysteries and historical fiction kind of guy, but my mother would have absolutely adored Frieren.

  I love that the whole premise for this series is &quot;The adventure is already over&quot;. Imagine if we didn&apos;t have The Hobbit or The Lord of the Ring and instead had a book set 50 years afterwards with Legolas retreading his steps to Mordor 😂

  I&apos;m a Japanese anime fan! You picked a great one! This show is popular with many people, but I think adults with a lot of life experience are especially likely to be able to sense the unspoken feelings of the adults around them. I think the structure of this show is very interesting, as the long-lived elves are not wise, but rather innocent children, and the short-lived humans teach them what it means to &quot;live&quot; by showing them how they grow old. There are high hopes for season 2 in Japan.

  The anime aired as the first four episodes together as like a mini-movie to set up the rest of the show. Which is why it ends kind of abruptly.
