Nieuwe wereldorde? Beatrice de Graaf, Joris Luyendijk, Maarten van Rossem ea | Best Of Ongelooflijke

The third of four special episodes in which we play the best clips from seven years of The Incredible Podcast. This time about the world—because the world of seven years ago essentially no longer exists. We experienced another major war in Europe under Putin, saw America change under Trump, China rise at a dizzying pace, and an international order to falter that we long thought was more or less self-evident. What exactly is shifting? What does that mean for us in Europe? And what worldview, what ideas—perhaps even what faith—lie beneath the power politics of the moment? In this episode, you will hear the best insights on Russia, the US, China, and Europe: • Joris Luyendijk on the greatest geopolitical change of his life. • Rob de Wijk on the return of the nineteenth century, the ‘Bokito world order’. • Beatrice de Graaf on the world as a billiard table, on which America, Russia, and China collide, and why Europe itself will have to become a giant billiard ball. • Hubert Smeets on why a country like Russia can also have 'too much history'. • Katya Tolstaya on the baptism of Prince Vladimir in 988, the overwhelming church service in Constantinople, and how dangerous it becomes when rulers start believing in their own misused myths. • Beatrice de Graaf on the radicalization of Putin. • Maarten van Rossem on the Chinese industrial miracle since 1979, the Thucydides trap, and giants with feet of clay. • Beatrice de Graaf on the world order that China offers. • Stefan Paas on how democracies usually do not disappear with tanks and a coup, but are slowly hollowed out from within. • James Kennedy on the moral appeal of Donald Trump • Bart Groothuis on why we stand on the shoulders of giants and the importance of more cultural self-confidence. • Paul Schenderling on the 'soul of Europe'. • And finally, Stefan Paas on what you can do when war and fear suddenly come very close.
