I had experienced staying in a tent during a thunderstorm a couple of times. It was scary and uncomfortable. Even the lightning struck near my tent, and it was damn loud - it sounded like a shotgun, and I smelled a rubber-like substance. I found a black streak on the cement wall where I camped at Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado in September 2005. Two days later, another lightning strike nearly struck me in Yellow Jacket, Colorado, while I speedily pedaled to avoid the rapidly growing thunderstorm. I endured adverse weather, including thunderstorms, many times while I pedaled across the world for a three-year solo journey. I felt much safer sleeping in my car during the thunderstorm than staying in a tent. :face-blue-smiling:
