  When I was in elementary school in the 80s, my best friend’s mom used to wear a perfume that was intoxicating to me. I asked her once what she was wearing, and she said it was musk. Over the next few decades, I tested and sampled hundreds of musk fragrances, but nothing smelled like what I remembered. About ten years ago, a girl came into a restaurant I was working at and sat at the bar where I was prepping. I got a whiff of the exact smell I had been looking for. She was wearing that cheap essence of amber they used to sell at Whole Foods.<br><br>So I went home and drew up a list of several different amber fragrances and ordered samples. The one that was identical to what I remembered as a child was Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir. Still, to this day, every time I wear it, I’m flooded with memories of my childhood, like that scene in Ratatouille when the food critic tastes the ratatouille. Memory is such an underrated aspect of both food and scent.

  Great video. Do not fall for fragrance influencers. They show you 5% of the fragrances that are out there. Go out and try niche and independent brands that treat perfume as artistic expressions and see yourself what resonates for you
