  This is exactly why I'm thankful to have started on clarinet and then started doubling sax, it's so much easier than sax to clarinet

  Your happiness is infectious! As somebody who started on the saxophone, clarinet was definitely a challenge since my brain was wanting it to be a saxophone when it just wasn't. Obviously practice makes perfect, and once you can wrap your head around going over the break, the embouchure should begin to click and everything will just start to work out.

  I started on clarinet in 1964 and got a second hand Martin alto sax in 1966. Started practicing the sax on my own and finally switched to sax in the band in spring of 1968. Challenged my way to first chair inside a month, and was first chair regional band two years later. Definitely easier to start on clarinet and add sax later because the embouchure is tighter on the clarinet.

  That was fun to watch you begin to figure out what I call the “shrieking twig”! As a clarinetist who started on clarinet and then learned saxophone I can say that it is much easier to start on clarinet than the other way around. I had sax player friends in college who had to learn clarinet for their music Ed requirements and good lord did they struggle. Bravo to you for always learning! I hope it’s going well!

  I started on clarinet way back in the late 60's. After a few years I switched over to the saxophone. About 20 years later I tried picking up the clarinet again, LOL! It was a beast! I put it away a few days later and never even considered picking it up again! About 4 years ago I started to play flute. Not as difficult as clarinet, fingering similar to the sax, but a whole different embouchure, no reed and different breath control. It's quite a challenge for an old guy like me...
