I think you really underestimate yelena, her emotional manipulation is absolutely crazy, she faked her entire life story to recruit the volunteers, then she was able to make the scouts trust her and make the volunteers destribute the wine throughout the military, without telling them her actual plan then she almost destroyed the alliance by making Mikasa Annie Reiner and Jean fight eachother, with just words
