  I agree with the better durability and  repairability of the older equipment, but comparing militairy needs with the needs of modern campers does not fly.

  Hand carved wooden tent stakes are free and great for soft and medium hardness ground and sand, but they will not go into frozen ground.  Titanium and hardened steel pegs can be hammered into frozen ground.  Ask any field cadastral surveyor about pegging frozen ground.

  I can attest to how the tent was always breaking in training, and we never used the personal tents after training.

  Its a struggle to find 100% wool camping gear in Aus.  All them sheep and not a wool shirt to be found.

  Holy crap... If I add up all the weight you&apos;re suggesting, I&apos;d fell backwards just by trying to lift my backpack. It might have worked back in the day to carry the load, but there&apos;s so much more to carry now... You&apos;ll have to pick your poison after all.<br>Additional downsides to single topics:<br>Canvas tent: I&apos;m old enough to know both: canvas for childhood camping and time in the army and synthetic tents for camping later on. I hated the canvas!!! One touch to the inside of a wet tent immediately starts the leaking. And it&apos;s heavy as a rock. It will rot faster than synthetics too.<br>Iron casting for cooking? Are you serious? The weight, the cleaning... omg! No way!!! Lightweight non-stick camping gear all the way! &lt;3<br><br>...well, I&apos;m done with your opinions about &quot;benefits&quot;. You basically favor an oak club over a modern gun, because it&apos;s more reliable, ignoring all the benefits of modern equipment. That&apos;s some serious bs! Fare well, oldtimer.

  да шерсть мокнет и при этом плохо сохраняет тепло и весит в 2-3 раза больше чем сухая. Синтетика быстро мокнет и быстро сохнет именно поэтому в Армиях ею заменили многие слои в форме чередуя хлопок с синтетикой, например Флис.

  The graph used in the intro compared wool to cotton (not synthetics). <br>Not very fair of you to use that graph and then quickly move on.<br>☹️👎<br>This earns you a &quot;do not recommend&quot;... as well as the whole nonsense thing about canvas, wool and cast iron being better than more midern choices. <br>When l go camping a don&apos;t bring a horse to carry my heavy kit, and l don&apos;t use materials that will let me down in the rain (canvas tents), or give me a hernia lifting out of my backpack (cast iron cookware).
