But you overlooked the fact that the PRC began with almost nothing. At the end of the civil war, the RoC government stripped the mainland of nearly all its liquid assets—gold, silver, and foreign reserves—and took them to Taiwan. In addition, when relations with the Soviet Union broke down in the late 1950s, the Soviets insisted that China repay all outstanding loans and aid in full. These factors also contributed to China’s poverty from 1949 through the 1980s.

You should know that Deng's 1978 reforms were based the "4 Modernizations" of Zhou En Lai, who also was his mentor.<br>Zhou first proposed his Modernizations back in 1963.

Most westerners mock China's long social, cultural, and economic building over the decades. Well they didn't have the luxury of looting the whole world to build theirs. Imagine taking uranium from a country to generate electricity, even sell some to Belgians hole the owners of the uranium aren't even allowed to build nuclear power.

Cherish the status quo of the properous China. It is not a given as most of us now regard. Deng fights to his last minute and just thrilly win.<br>On the other hand, Thank God's bless, God shaped Deng all through his life, including when in French.<br>Of course it is not all sunshine and roses. Both Mao and Deng have bloody hands. That is the same as all China's dynasties began with. Since all of us have had a long hardshing along the way, again, Let's cherish todays situation and help keep the peace going, no more chaos.
