"Come Dancing" was written for Ray Davies' sister who died of a heart attack (she had heart disease) while dancing at a London dance hall.

Ray Davies chronicled everyday life like no-one else and you've only just scratched the surface, The Village Green Preservation Society and Waterloo Sunset are genius.

Ray Davies wrote some of the most clever, acerbic, irreverent and sublimely humorous songs in all of popular music. A true wordsmith who also composed very accessible, toe-tapping music.

Lola was a cross-dresser. He still had his own "equipment". This was a true story, lived by the band's road manager. Great stuff.

You Really Got Me (covered by Van Halen) was historic in that Dave Davies slashed the cone of the guitar speaker to make the sound he wanted.

Ray Davies is one of the great songwriters from the British Invasion, right up there with Lennon, McCartney and Townshend, who all, at various times, expressed their jealousy, frustration and admiration for Ray's songwriting skills. <br>And his brother Dave is largely credited as one of the founders of both the punk and heavy metal guitar style of playing.<br>Just an extremely influential band.

That song..Apeman..it's still as relevant now, in 2026, as it was back in 1970...Come Dancing..it's one of those old songs I just love!
