Alligator gar are being reintroduced. They do prey on carp, but friend, no gar ever crawled from the water and made tracks. They have no feet. The Great Lakes states have an indigenous fish that also preys on carp—muskies (muscullonge). They grow to 6 feet, are extremely fast, have a huge mouth, and razor-sharp teeth. They too are ambush predators.

I remember that time a big catfish from our pond crawled 100 yds, and used its fin/hands to open the back door, and rummage through our refrigerator. 🐟

All the original fish species of any river systems need to be preserved to maintain balance of those ecsystems.

Here in NY, we haven’t seen any carp in 5 to 7 years. The river would always come up into our fields and you could see the carp splashing around, now the water is empty of carp, absolutely nothing splashing except ducks, and geese.

Excellent story. I was part of the Desplaines River rats when it started and we added native plants plus game fish and it's making a comeback some 30 yrs. Its great to see native species and hope more our brought back. 😊

The damage from the carp wrecking the River bottom is seen in the water draining through the mud and the water levels dropping throughout the Mississippi basin!
