  Gorgonopsids were some of the earliest and most successful saber-toothed predators. One of their biggest advantages was that their canines could regrow if damaged, unlike those of later saber-toothed mammals.

  Dont walruses have modern day saber teeth, or what&apos;s the difference 😅<br>Edited <br>(I searched it and walruses are carnivorous and known as saber tooth seals so technically yes another modern animal evolved saber teeth)<br><br>Also btw Evermannellidae(Saber tooth fish) and the saber tooth salmon

  It&apos;s funny that everyone assumes they used those by biting.... Physics suggests to me that they used them to slash with their chin, mouth closed. That would prevent damage to the teeth and give them another weapon set.

  There actually has been evidence that Smilodon may have lived in groups like lions. Signs that they <i>did</i> survive devastating injuries (including loss of a fang) were also supportive of group living, as they would&apos;ve needed food brought to them if they were in bad condition (where an injured solitary predator would die). They may have been able to rely on this in the case of broken fangs too. Clouded Leopards have the longest fang to size ratio, their skulls look very similar.
