The corset point is completley innacurate. It doesn't reshape your body any more permanently than a hand tightly grasped around your wrist. Very few people were tightening to the extreme and the stays used in the 1840's to 50's are noted as having minimal waist supression.

Oh my god the corset misinformation 😭 I know some people did do it but yall this was NOT as common as you think. Actually I believe there is no solid evidence that this was a normal practice. Corsets were tightened tight but not to the point of your organs and body autonomy shifting. Usually in worst cases girls were just super uncomfortable and had a low amount of fuction. Which is still awful but not to the point that was described here. Corsets were more like bra’s if anything. The main purpose of them was to support the heavy garments they wore back then. And to help give shape to heir dresses.  Furthermore, corsets sometimes look tighter than they are because of how poofy some dresses were back im the day. A tight corset and a poofy skirt give off a really great illusion. This huge misconception of corsets believe it or not; while the time is still uncertain, it’s highly believed to actually come from the 2000’s. Especially when things like waist training was invented. The myth that corsets were tightened to the point that they harmed your internal organs is almost  completely made up. If your wondering why in paintings they had impossibly small waist, is because the painters were instructed to basically be Photoshop artist!

Okay, but a woman's dowry can remain her property if it is written into the marriage contract.<br><br>It's just that most fathers didn't bother to write that into the marriage  contract.

fun fact corsets were just like bras and not every person cinched them too tight, they also used illusion to make the waist appear smaller by padding the top and bottoms and made a more accentuated hourglass figure

To be fair to the many doctors of the 1840's, 50, and 60s who used laudanum for pain relief back then this is actually one of the better treatments for the time.  <br><br>The other popular treatment of the time for pain relief was cocaine they would sell cocaine lozenges for throat pain and cocaine gum for tooth and/gum pain.
