  This song was written by Smokey Robinson. The Temptations took the song to #29 in the Billboard 100 in 1966. Rare Earth took a 3-minute version of the song edited down from 21 minutes to #4 in the Billboard 100 in 1970. <br>The song was on their album Get Ready that peaked at #12 in 1970. When they started to record this album they ran out of material so they recorded a 21-minute version of this song to fill up space. The album wasn’t going anywhere until the edited version of the single was released and then it took off. <br>Rare Earth recorded an unusual version of this song that stretched over 21 minutes and took up the entire second side of their first Motown album, which was issued in the fall of 1969. This version was based on Rare Earth’s live version of the song, where every member of the band would get a solo. In 1970, <br>Motown released a 3-minute edit as a single, which peaked at #4 in the Billboard 100 in 1970. The song also did well on R&amp;B stations, even though some DJs refused to play it when they found out the group wasn’t black – they were one of the first white groups signed to Motown.

  I used to see these guys live at &apos;The Roostertail&apos; in Detroit on Sunday nights! The 1st white band under the Motown label! Pete was the drummer and lead vocalist! I was a teenager! Late 1960&apos;s!!! &nbsp;This is a cover of a Temptations song! Thank you!!!!!

  Today&apos;s kids would run away from home if their parents played a 20+ minute long song. &nbsp;I&apos;ve never cared about how long a song is as long as it was continually interesting but then again, I&apos;m old. &nbsp;I grew up in the era when FM radio stations played the extended 10+ minute long cuts of songs while AM radio stations only played the 3.5 minute long hits. &nbsp;Plus, &quot;instrumental&quot; wasn&apos;t a four letter word back then.

  I met Pete Riviera at a show in Detroit. Nice, down to earth guy. No pun intended. A humble person for all the talent he has.

  This was one side of the album. Each musician got a chance to showcase their talent on this cut. I remember lying on the floor inn my bedroom, my head between the huge speakers of my stereo system and just rocking out to this. Ahhh the days of my youth.

  I just heard the 21 minute version and I was bouncing every minute...that drum solo is CRAZY...guitar solo too but them drums...and he kept time the whole time.

  Peter Rivera had a great sense of groove on the drums. The drum and bass duet was cool. Motown with a touch of psychedelic rock.
