When I was in third grade I had a teacher tell me that I couldn't match the pitch and that I wasn't meant to be a singer. And then in 7th grade I wanted to join the choir. To be in the choir you had to sing a solo so I didn't even try because I was too afraid to but I really really longed to be in the choir. My heart still really wants to be a singer. I'm 53 and I just took my first voice lesson. I'm only doing one a month because they're expensive, but at least I finally took a step towards it.

I am a singer. When my mum died in a car accident when I was 19, I went to the funeral home late one night and sung to my mum as a way to release the overwhelming shock and grief. I stood next to her in her casket and sang for 2 hours. It really helped me. The greif was still there but I was able to cope with the instant shock of it all. It was night time and no one but the funeral director was on site. It was so healing. The songs and tears flowed naturally. I will always be grateful to the funeral director for doing that for me. I slept for the first time in days that night. I was able to honor her by singing at her funeral without the tears during the song.

I lost my son last year in a horrible accident he was only 3 years old and all I want to do is delete myself all day - I sang to him all the time - my baby boy - all he ever wanted was to sing all day everyday but he was nonverbal autistic- he finally was able to sing twinkle twinkle little star and say mumma I yuh you too before he passed. The only thing that keeps me going is when I sing to my little girl and being here for her but also being a professional singer it’s the only real therapy that works

I know somebody who painted like a third grader. She took some lessons with a good teacher and in 6 months you could hang her paintings in any museum and people would think it was from somebody famous. She also couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, took voice lessons and now sings like an angel.

You can just do things.

I’m 65. I have always had a good tone but never learned breath support. I started going on YouTube 2 years ago and listening to voice coaching. I’m now being asked to sing at places. It feeds my soul such joy!

My partner died recently and today I just lay in bed, singing at the top of my lungs my old favorites. I did it all morning.

Recently, my aunt was on her death bed. I sang to her as she made her transition. I will never be able to put into words the presence of God I felt in those moments. It was a gift to her and truly a gift to my soul as well. I left knowing without a doubt God and Heaven are real and we are so very loved.

As a child, I had a very bad stutter. I was incomprehensible at times, especially when talking to a group. I ended up having a speech therapist and we discovered that even when I couldn't speak without stuttering, I could sing without a stutter. So whenever my stutter would get very bad and I was having trouble articulating, she encouraged me to try to sing whatever I was trying to say. Even just sort of monotone, it helped a lot. Singing is such an amazing gift.

Some realizations as a singer. The pleasure of the singer and the pleasure of the listener are two different things. most people are listeners. the pleasure of the singer is much higher.
