Have wondered about the top city for expats? Well, we did a video about that city as well. But is it REALLY that great? Have a look yourself: https://youtu.be/0RpW5HkIIYc

In Switzerland it's the same. People are not racist, they're just extremely reserved and scared to talk to people they don't know since childhood. I was at a course with 20 doctors and psychologists that didn't know each other. During the first break everyone was just standing there without talking, ignoring everyone else. I was the first person to say something lmao

I am living in Spain and I face the same issues... People have friends and family from childhood, apartments won't rent to me from my name, I speak fluent spanish too. People will laugh and drink with you outside but thats all, no meeting again for drinks or get closer.

This happens EVERYWHERE to ALL expats! Trust me, I lived in the US, China, Kuwait and now Spain and the locals are untouchable unless you date one.

Why do people always think the place to meet "intresting" people is " nightlife" ?

I love how Germans are always talking about inclusivity while not talking to you.

A big part of what she shares – like missing her family and friends, feeling the new apartment is empty, having trouble making new friends and being part of groups, the fact that locals tend to flock together etc. – is not necessarily related to Berlin, but also that will happen to anyone living abroad in a place with a culture very different when compared to their own. I'm not defending or attacking anyone, just pointing out such experiences are not related to one specific city or country.

And this is a white, educated European woman who speaks German. Imagine the struggles for other people.

People used to call me an introvert in my home country, but when I came here to Germany I realized I'm actually an extrovert on the German scale 🤣🤣🤣

I'm spanish as well and in the same situation as well. All of a sudden you feel you don't belong anywhere, somekind of a nomad, it's a very very weird sensation that never leaves.

I’m Sardinian and I lived in London for 18 years — a city that, in many ways, feels very similar to Berlin: fast, creative, intense, but also exhausting and increasingly unequal. The main difference is that in London you can, at least in theory, become a Londoner — something many global cities promise but rarely deliver.
However, I believe the era of big cities as symbols of progress is coming to an end. They are becoming more expensive, more exclusive, more stressful, and less human. Instead of freedom, they often offer precarity; instead of community, isolation.
Being back in Sardinia feels like reclaiming my life — slower, more connected to nature, more grounded, and far more meaningful. Here I feel alive again, not just productive.
