Why did you sink charred wood posts into the ground UNDER the foundation stones? I haven't seen anything like this before and I can't seem to understand how it could/would assist in frost upheaval? I'm in the prep stages of planning our own square timber home in Northern, BC where frost upheaval is a big issue. Up here the answer appears to be concrete pillars (using sono tubes) that go at least 2 feet BELOW the frost line - so in our case we'd need to sink these pillars into the ground at least 4.5 feet.
