I felt as though I had a one-on-one conversation with Brandon. The subject matter is exactly what I am dealing with as a single person with a pension, SS, and a large portfolio consisting of multiple streams of income all quietly compounding away. Thank you for this valuable insight.

I did roth conversions over several years and got everything in the taxable IRA moved to the roth. Yes, I took the hit with the conversions, the roth has already gone up more then the taxes I paid and continues to grow tax free.

This is very valuable information for that 1% who have both a pension AND $2M+ in a 401k/IRA. As you said, most people who have this haven't thought through what will happen to them when they reach RMD age.

There's a reason people stop planning when they realize their money can't possibly run out. It's because that's the win, not having to care about all of this tedious crap anymore. If you're in the position outlined in this video, retired with 2 mil + a pension, what will worrying about this stuff do for you? You'll die with 5 million dollars instead of 4 million? Do you really care? I suppose if you have kids and want to leave as much inheritance as possible then I guess maybe, but for your own life, and your own lifestyle, it makes no difference. If you have enough income+savings that you no longer need to worry about running out of money, thats it, you've already won the war. If you really want to go looking for more battles to fight so that you die with an additional 500k in your accounts, then go for it, whatever floats your boat. Just please understand that choosing to just not worry about it anymore and enjoy your life is a valid choice if you're in this situation. A VERY valid choice.

This was close to our household situation except we had 3 pensions coming in; we are going to take 401 distributions up to the top of the 32% tax bracket until all funds are depleted. We will not spend those in every year but invest them in another investment vessel. Running the numbers, we felt this was the best option as taking out only required MIMINUM distributions only allowed the balance to grow out of hand.
