  Never bought a coating for UV protection just to have a layer for hydrophobics and dirt repellency making washing easier and hopefully that does less marring in the end. Which to correct means I remove less clear coat hopefully. New ceramic coatings are so easy to install now I would rather do that once every few years than a sealant every 4 months or so. It’s a much different perspective when you can do your own correction and install as it’s a far less expensive endeavor even with buying equipment.

  Finally someone proving what I’ve been saying for years. I’ve never offered my clients ceramic coating because I felt it was a scam. Not saying it doesn’t have benefits. But I’ve told my clients to take that money they wanna spend on ceramics and get your cars clear coat redone.

  Honestly I use ceramic coating to have longer hydrophobics and make it easier to wash. The real important part is keeping your truck or car clean. Road film and other containments is what degrades both coatings and clear coat. I usually coat the truck when I get it, and then rinseless wash the truck every 5 days. This ensures that you are keep all those containments off the vehicle. I have a daily driver 1/2 ton truck. It is 5 years old and the paint still looks like day one with a couple of chips in the front grill. It takes me around 20-30 minutes every 5 days. This is the key for your paint.

  That’s it! I’m sticking to my “old school” paint sealants and paste wax. Ain’t nobody got time for dealing with high spots, ghosting,crazy prep, etc. I personally prefer the warm glow my paste wax leaves behind anyways

  Ceramic coatings are useful. They make washing easier and help to prevent micro marring through slickness. The car stays cleaner for longer, self cleans during rains to a degree too. I don't think any detailers are making wild claims about coatings being scratch or chip proof any more. You are 100% right that coating manufacturers need to stop saying they are UV resistant, until they prove it. I don't want to be waxing or sealing my customers car every time they see me. Coatings solve that. It means that the customer pays once, not every visit.

  Appreciate the honesty! It&apos;s pretty wild that you&apos;re shedding light on this after launching your own ceramic coating brand promising &apos;years of protection.&apos; Small claims court might want a word. Oh oh. <br><br>Wait—Scott, you spent years running tests, concluded that ceramic coatings offer &apos;minuscule protection,&apos; and then turned right around to market your own line with multi-year durability claims? Touting about how cheap they are to make? Yet selling for over $80 for your 3 year? <br><br>On top of that, you&apos;re helping other people formulate their coatings while secretly believing the tech is overblown? That&apos;s not a great look.&quot; Hypocrisy at its finest. <br><br>You have amazing content on finding alternatives and in a pinch scenario. This thing kind of makes you very hypocritical. You have summed up about what a coating does just add water repellency, last longer than wax, depth in shine depending on manufacturer and keeps the car cleaner for longer. Which most other brands have. That’s like sunblock. The SPF is only applicable if you apply every 1 hour or so. It’s not just apply once and you’re set for the rest of the day. Is a coating scratch resistant? Potentially very minuscule. There are various degrees of scratches. <br><br>A ceramic coating is a wax on steroids that’s it.
