I Cloned a Brand-New BMW Key… BMW Has a Problem

In this video, I demonstrate a serious security vulnerability affecting modern BMW keys, including keys used on current BMW G-Series vehicles. I test the issue on two different modern BMWs using keys manufactured in Hungary and Mexico — including key versions commonly considered encrypted and non-encrypted. The result? A BMW key can potentially be fully cloned, with the cloned key providing the same vehicle access as the original. ⏱️ In my demonstration, copying the required key information took just 57 seconds. Even including disassembly and reassembly of the original key, the entire process took less than 2 minutes. The dangerous part is that the vehicle itself does not need to be present during the initial copying process. Temporary access to the original key may be enough. For obvious security reasons, I intentionally blur the equipment, software, and critical parts of the procedure. The purpose of this video is NOT to teach anyone how to steal a BMW. The goal is to raise awareness among BMW owners and demonstrate why you should treat your vehicle key as a security-critical device. 🔐 HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BMW • Never leave your main BMW key unattended or give it to someone you do not trust. • When leaving your BMW at a car wash, detailing shop, workshop, hotel valet parking, etc., consider using a BMW Key Card instead of your physical key whenever your vehicle supports it. • Consider a high-quality aftermarket immobilizer or additional security system, but choose both the equipment and installer carefully. In the video, I also demonstrate that the cloned key can operate Comfort Access, unlock and lock the vehicle, start the engine and allow the vehicle to be driven — effectively behaving like the original key.
