  Lufia2 does not get enough praise. From how enemy encounters in dungeons are handled, the puzzles, IP skills, how many different stats and effects gear could have, capsule monsters, the great casino games, the secrets, the frikking Ancient Cave etc etc. It improved on so many rpg mechanics that a lot of modern rpgs feel like a step back.

  Huge SNES and PS1 game fan. Born in 1985. Why are these the best RPGs? I feel like games today don&apos;t hit like the oldies. Thanks!

  Some other considerations:<br><br>Bahamut Lagoon - A Japan only strategy RPG. You&apos;d set up squads of 4 characters and each squad would have a dragon linked to them that would not only act as another unit on the field, but would also affect the skills of their squad. There was also a dragon raising aspect where feeding them items would affect their growth. Along with a sizeable cast of characters each with their own small stories<br><br>Treasure of the Rudras - A very experimental game. You&apos;d set up spells by entering specific words. The game would let you discover specific words along the way that would have certain effects. The story was also pretty neat where you have a few different parties that you&apos;d switch between that would occasionally intersect. But they each had their own plotline that ran in parallel with the rest

  The only thing I don’t like about Tales of Phantasia is that you end up with 5 characters and a 4 person party. &nbsp;I always thought it was strange that only one person sat out.
