  Fun fact: Laserdiscs aren&apos;t actually like the vinyl of discs, that would go to the CED, a format that was literally Vinyl but it stored video. <br><br>Laserdiscs are just really big DVDs, due to the less perfect methods of creation they are technically on par with early DVDs from the 1990s (Though sometimes better or worse in some cases), and some discs had 1080i HD Video as early as 1993 through using the same tech as Blu-rays

  Kai&apos;s weird censorship was only in the Nicktoons and Toonzai versions, and I stand by the Adult Swim version is still the best way to watch DBZ dubbed

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl5I9d73usU&amp;t=1040">17:20</a> it&apos;s a common misconception that the studio had to &quot;not reveal&quot; super saiyan before the manga, in actuality Super Saiyan&apos;s hair wasn&apos;t blond at the time the concept art was sent to the studio, that was a decision made essentially as Toriyama was drawing the chapter, Japan doesn&apos;t care about spoilers, they relish it, to the point that Lord Slug&apos;s Japanese name is literally just &quot;Super Saiyan Son Goku&quot;

The version of Gohan depicted in the Cell saga used to be known as Teen Gohan, but recently it has been changed to Youth Gohan like in Dragon Ball Legends

  I think the Gohan age bit is referring to his initial age being changed. He was originally 3 apparently, but was aged up to be at least slightly more believable.

  The One in the slug movie isn&apos;t &quot;a movie own interpretation of the Duper Saiyan&quot; but is actually &quot;the beta design of the Super Saiyan&quot;. It changed later in the manga because he didn&apos;t wanted to color the hairs, but that was the actual description of what the Super Saiyan supposed to look like

  To expand on the &quot;Journey to the west&quot; bit, it runs far deeper than just having a character named Son Goku who has a monkey tail. <br><br>Dragon Ball, at its inception, was conceived mostly as a 10 chapter parody of Journey to the West with elements thrown in from Toriyama’s numerous influences (from Jackie Chan Kung Fu films to old WW2 car designs etc). <br><br>As such Journey To The West’s DNA runs far deeper than just Goku’s. In fact most of the cast are parodies from the original. <br><br>Goku is the obvious one. Oolong is the pig, Yamcha the wolf etc. <br><br>Bulma is the monk character flipped on its head. He’s a man of faith, she’s a woman of science. He seeks the scrolls for selfless, spiritual reasons, she seeks the Dragon Ball for selfish and silly reasons. He’s wise and calm, she’s petty and petulant etc. <br><br>Even the events they go through are twists on the adventures the party of JttW get themselves into. <br><br>For instance, in the original story, the Monk and Sun Wukong stumble upon this pig monster who steals young women from a local village. Wukong being a shape-shifter turns into a young woman and tries to seduce the monster as a ploy but gets disgusted by him and turns back. They have a giant battle and then they realize he was one of the people they were supposed to recruit for their journey and he was supposed to join them so he joins the team. <br><br>In Dragon Ball, Goku isn’t a shapeshifter so they just dress him up like a girl but, being silly Goku he drops the disguise by taking a leak standing up in front of Oolong. Oolong himself is no fighter and so the big fight is a giant joke. And Bulma tricks him into joining the party at the end by making swallow a pill that gives him a stomach ache every time she whistles. And of course, the girls Oolong kidnapped have completely taken over his place and live in lavish luxury, to the point that they don’t even want to go back to their village , because he’s actually a pushover and not much of a bad guy. <br><br>This continues all throughout the first arc and Japanese readers at the time were expected to recognize the tongue and cheek retelling of the story (which is like Little Riding Hood or something for them) so it’s a whole reading of OG Dragon Ball that gets somewhat lost for foreign audiences.

  &quot;Super Saiyan Power&quot; is most likely a reference to one of the DBZ action figure commercials, where the narrator awkwardly delivers &quot;will Goku&apos;s super saiyan power be enough this time?&quot;. It was really cringey and I remember it got meme&apos;d a lot back in the mid to late 2010&apos;s.

The first and final episodes were done before the rest of the series was planned at all.

  The Jiren Buddha theory was something speculated on during the airing of the TOP before we got his backstory near the end of the arc. I remember a few powerscaling channels at the time, mainly Seth (RIP lmao) and Chuck I think, floating around the idea while trying to guage and predict his full power.
