As for why, at one time, a weapon wasn't "universal" and good for both cutting and thrusting, well, I've heard officers believe that universality complicates training, and the common soldier is expected to learn a single method of combat. Therefore, having two functions gives him an unnecessary temptation to try something he doesn't know how to do.

For to me unknown reason, in Versailles Treaty German Reichswehr was only allowed to use a saber of 1796 style, no more 1889 Kavalleriedegen. So this type of saber was used by german cavallry until early 1941.

Nice surprise, Can we have a Christmas video, perhaps an unboxing or present suggestions of books, or <br>sword wish lists.

I believe in the books Sharpe has a spear point sword, at least the one Sargent Harper gets for him in Sharpe's Sword he then sharpens into a spear point.

It's a fun thing to try at home. Grab a good stick, or your arming sword of choice, and have someone toss fruit at you from all angles, try to slice it, try to stab it. It's a lot harder than fruit ninja on your phone.
