  When we were kids, we used to get excited about driving across the Huey P Long bridge, but it was often dangerous,top. That's why my father didnt really like taking that route.

  Oh do i have stories crossing that bridge. The hwy lanes were very narrow.

  I always wondered how the Huey P Long bridge was built. The river current is really fast from Baton Rouge all of the way to the Gulf. It was a adventure driving across the car part of the bridge before they widened the bridge. It was meant for car that were not as wide as the cars and trucks in the 70s 80s and 90s and i used to drive a dump truck across the bridge and I always worried about crushing a car trying to pass me and some people were stupid enough to try and pass. Dump trucks and 18 wheelers would rub the outer curb when crossing because of people trying to pass. I saw quite a few accidents from people trying to pass big trucks. Go measure how narrow the 1930s cars are and even the trucks. They are not as wide as more modern vehicles so it was a real challenge. I knew many people who would go to the GNO bridge and other bridges to avoid crossing the Huey P Long!

  Bridge was built shorter than it was supposed to be causing everyone in usa taking test for captains license to have 1 extra questions on test
