Alright, folks... help me solve a debate. My Seattlelite friend claims you <b>don't</b> refer to Rainier as "The Mountain." But, I think it's definitely a thing. So, what say you?

You only considered climate. Are there any geological factors at play? Apparently, Northwest strato-volcanoes all have a 2-million year life cycle, and eventually erode to the level of the surrounding plane. I think Rainier might be too young for this to be a factor, at least in terms of measurable height variation, but I don't know--I'm not a geologist.
