the men making feminism type movies without women is such a weird concept to me but wait this is such a valid point , especially since you brought of stepford wives

what bothered me was when they made it a point to crank up her intelligence to 100, and then she behaves in the exact same way and continues to make mistakes. what it really indicates is the lack of imagination on the part of the writer as to what that level of intelligence would look like. the writer can't be any smarter than they are...

When Iris started talking about penis size in one of her last arguments with Josh, it confirmed that it was written by a straight man. It was so disappointing for me because if sex robots are almost here then she could’ve pointed out that she has the ability to feel pleasure during intercourse and that he’s never bothered to please her the way she’s always pleased him. It would’ve been a great parallel to what a lot of straight cis women get from men. I understand that Josh is an incel but if only there had been more nuance with developing the characters. Maybe it wouldn’t have been so predictable.

On International Women's Day, I saw an event advertised with an AI generated image of women. They couldn't find ONE human woman worth celebrating

Trying to speak to men and trying to speak for women are two very different things, and it's a very important distinction. This feels like the latter trying to be the former.

You know... I think a more feminist or impactful result would of been a unification of Fembot and Woman realizing it's not fair either of them are seen as objects.

It's kinda interesting when the idea of a real life robot shows up in fiction (and real life now too i guess) it immediatly centers around sexual abuse and slavery? As if humans can never abandon the idea of having someone they can abuse and do anything they want to, someone they don't regard as human. In fiction it's written as a big bad but now in reality with AI and its developing like you showed; people are super stoked?? It's crazy. We already lack so much human connection :( And these stories about AI women being preferred to or being more real than actual women are kinda insane to write during these times...

The most hilarious part about this script was when she cranked her intelligence to 100 and suddenly started voicing all of her thoughts making the most basic of predictions. I mean. If this is what the writing room thought the most effective show of intelligence I can only assume what the average intelligence of the writing room was...

The last few scene were the most ungirl boss thing for me. She was suppose to have hacks now and be threatening. Then he throws her around the room and strangles her while saying the grosses shit. People walked out of the theater when I watched opening day, during that scene. Why did she need to be beaten up multiple times? I get that it’s a metaphor for how it’s hard to leave dv relationships and the victim keeps coming back only to get abused again. That being said it was not a serve for me. It felt degrading as women and someone who’s been in dv relationships. Like they had nothing to say about the topic but they wanted to milk it for shock value. Concert for the movie was cool but script was terrible

I know it's a cartoon, but Jenny from My Life as a Teenage Robot still stands as one of my all-time favorite portrayals of female robots in media. She's a fun subversion of what we're used to, since as opposed to being built to serve an unrealistic male fantasy, she is instead a fully-weaponized superhero with all the stubborn and messy emotional trappings of a teenage girl. While the show begins with Jenny being a subservient robot isolated from humans when she isn't doing her job, we see her establish herself as a sentient, living thing, and gain more independence and perspective over time.<br><br>Unfortunately being a children's show made in the early 2000's, it could only cover so much in terms of politics with Jenny/robots in proxy of marginalized groups, but upon a re-watch in adulthood I was surprised how a few episodes in the series covered topics like bigotry, exploited labor, and the corruption within the police and military complexes, the worst of which is often carried out on underprivileged groups. Admittedly the execution is a bit clumsy in some of those same episodes, partly because 1) she has no longterm female friends for her to relate to/gain perspective, and 2) Jenny is established as one of the few fully-sentient robot characters. Of the robots living on Earth, many of her supposed brethren are established as not being as advanced as her, and one episode where she tries to liberate them from what she perceives to be an oppressive system fall flat because of their lack of desire to have the same level of freedom that she has. Though perhaps there's something to say in the way she is further othered and isolated in her own "groups."<br><br>Nevertheless the show has great moments where the seeds of those conversations can be planted and cultivated with time. If nothing else, I hear a lot of trans girls and women really related to Jenny's struggles to establish herself as female when they were growing up. As for myself, I latched onto her story and struggles to fit in with humans as a queer, neurodivergent child who felt similarly alienated (says something that I'm bringing it up 21 years down the line). Either way, the show means a lot to myself and others, and I'm always surprised how little it's discussed when the topic of robots in fiction is breached.<br><br>Regardless, big fan of your videos, and really love hearing the things you have to say about women in fictional media. Hope to see more from you, soon!
