FJ40s just have something special. I own one in RC form, but seeing a real 50-year-old one restored is on another level.

I see all the work that’s gone into this, and honestly, it’s impressive. If I’d had these tools, though, there’s one thing I would have done differently: I would have removed all the rust, coated the frame with a weld-through primer, and then welded the new pieces on top. That way, there wouldn’t be any unprotected metal underneath the welds or between the overlapping sheets. It would have lasted much longer, and the welded pieces wouldn’t have created potential future rust spots.<br>Since it’s going to be exposed to water, mud, gravel, and so on, I think it would have made sense to properly paint and protect it right from the beginning.<br>The problem with older vehicles was precisely that they weren't painted in every area, leaving bare metal exposed.
