  I think players in those days were more skillfull because the racket heads are so much smaller than what the players use today , borg is my all time favourite player !

  Commentators were great then.  Only talk when really necessary, let the game speak for itself.  Now yap yap yap.

  Tanner was clocked at 153 mph at Palm Springs in 1978 during the final against Raúl Ramírez.

  No need for shot clocks in those days, 5th set and only 2 hours gone! No toweling down in-between each point. Players got on with the job.

  The Tanner service action - simply wonderful: smooth, almost effortless pace.  Unfortunately, his game lacked solid consistency - groundstrokes could break down under pressure sometimes.  Nevertheless, a great talent from a magical age of tennis.  Boy, do I miss those days, but so lucky to have bee around in that era.  Great video, thank you so much for the memories!

  I love these old legendary matches, you see the tactical chess games being played right in front of you. No throwing or even breaking rackets, no idiotic behaviour, just pure tennis by the greats of the sport.

  If Will Ferrell did a tennis movie, he could play the Roscoe Tanner part perfectly.

  1 second ago<br>Later that Summer, Tanner would defeat Borg in the Qtrs at the US Open. The following two years saw Borg defeating Tanner in the same rd. at the Open. I was lucky enough to attend at least one of the matches in &apos;80 and &apos;81.
