We looked at some lower priced Alberta properties a year ago but ultimately ended up buying raw land in rural Alberta north of Edmonton. We got 5 acres for $45k and just ordered a prefab metal 'barndominium" for another $60K. Power, septic and a well will bring the total cost to around $150K.

Small town Alberta is affordable provided it's far away from the Highway 2 corridor. Downside is the economy will be primarily agriculture but if you're ready to retire and come into it with enough equity to own the property outright and you like a quiet lifestyle, it's there for you.

Sub 100k was not difficult to find in Southern Ontario 15 years ago. Now sub 300k is pretty much impossible.

I bought a dumpy 1938 house that already had a few upgrades like some updated electrical & a natural gas furnace. <br>Luckily, my Dad was a contractor and taught me much thru the years. Some folks have no idea what a load-bearing wall is.

Just found your channel and absolutely love the message, during covid and a really bad work injury St. Albert north of Edmonton was not an option for us anymore...found a place west of Manville and made the move. There are tons of properties that are affordable, the trick is to find what will fit you...and understand that you're not in the city anymore so don't bring your city vibe with you, long time locals won't appreciate it. Yes, winters are a chore, they're a chore anywhere you live in Alberta.😁

I have nothing against rural living but one thing people should remember is the farther north you move, the more things cost, food, fuel etc

Where to look next? The SOUTHERN half of Southern Alberta. All these are NORTH of the deep south. Areas around the cities of Lethbridge & Medicine Hat would be nice to see, thanks 👍
