As someone from Vancouver, the issue behind all this is the people of Vancouver. We are an extremely liberal city, and as such, have extremely liberal policies. I don't even bother to vote in municipal and provincial politics because it is a choice between left, far left, and far far left. When 70% of the debates are land acknowledgements and issues on gender/colour, these actual issues get neglected.

This has to be by design. Look at San Diego, Portland, Maui and Seattle; all similar to Vancouver in the sense they're prized as some of the most desirable places to live and now they've been abandoned to rot. It's likely they'll be left until people abandon the city altogether and then big money will swoop in and buy everything up for a song and then install law and order again so they can sell their newly refurbished crown jewels.

I am a 63 year old woman, about 20 years ago i injured my back at work, surgery, physio, still had a lot of pain. My doctor put me on oxicodin, a few years later was still on it, needing higher doses. I finally woke up realizing i was full blown addicted. A single mom...doctor told me it wasnt addictive. I had moved, new doctor, still on oxi, her raising doses. I finally wanted off of it, doctor told me i was better off to stay on it forever. That i would have to go on methadone and it would be worse. I went home feeling deflated and angry, let down by doctors, i went cold turkey, took suppliments, it was tough, i wont lie, but haven't looked back! 8 years now without it 😊

Retired first responder here. I responded for years to SRO's in Vancouver. The majority of deaths that I saw were in those buildings. If the public knew what was going on in those buildings, they would be shocked. This city needs dire help.
Great documentary, thank you for covering this.

Zero consequences. Zero accountability. These people have become untouchable and if anything happens to them, those special interest groups victimize the person causing problems.

I grew up in Vancouver from 1969 to 2018 when I moved to Spain. Vancouver in the 70's and 80's was a paradise. A affordable, friendly city that was still under populated. We used to enjoy our Sunday walks in Stanley Park, or a stroll on Ambleside. I lived all over Vancouver and never ever felt afraid to walk the streets of Vancouver at night or anytime. How sad it is to see how politicians are destroying what was a safe beautiful city to live in. I have to say the part of Spain i live in reminds me of how times were in the 70's in Vancouver.

My father was a paramedic in Vancouver, he’s since been on leave for PTSD and burnout and doesn’t want to go back. He’d be getting called to constant ODs in DTE lots of the times having to revive the same people within an hour or so apart, just for them to wake up and attack him. He’s been constantly threatened for doing his job and sometimes can’t even get out the vehicle as they’ll surround the ambulance and flash weapons, he used to love his job it’s sad to see how he’s lost his joy in his career and humanity.. Vancouver ruined him.

This is my pipe dream: every time someone defecates on the street, or a needle is found on the street, a politician has to clean it up. Anytime someone is randomly attacked, the attacker’s ‘punishment’ is spending a weekend at a politicians home. Anytime someone steals from a store, the amount stolen is docked from every politicians pay-check. (I could keep going).
I have a feeling things would change pretty fast.

I am born and raised in Vancouver and am sad to say it has really gotten out of hand. We are leaving Vancouver for good next month. It’s an absolute zoo. None of this documentary is an exaggeration.

I am a US citizen living in Seattle now. I lived in Vancouver from 1997-1999, when the city was much safer. It saddens me that one of the most beautiful cities in the world is "dying" just like Seattle. This is what happens when crimes go unpunished and police aren't allowed to police. Really, really tragic.
