  Dad had a radium pocket watch. He showed me once. The radiation had darkened the crystal over the numbers. As an engineer, he knew what it was and kept it wrapped up in a drawer some distance from rooms we frequented. After looking at it for a minute, he wrapped it back up and put it away. Yes, it still glowed.
