  I grew up in Pitman when they were dumping the waste in Lapari. They would drive a tractor trailer loaded with powdered waste into the pit, unhook the trailer and bury it. This was all approved by the Government. I didn't witness this, but I had friends who did. Eventually the ground water seeped into the trailers and liquefied the powdered waste which then spilled into the soil.

  The Toxic Avenger was supposed to be a joke. The Toxic Avenger New Jersey's only super hero. I lived 1/4 mile from Oxidential Chemical, train cars of vinyl chloride.

  You left out the DuPont site in Pompton Lakes and surrounding communities. Also, in Ringwood, part of what we euphemistically referred to as the "mine area" was turned into the Monksville reservoir. For those with long memories, Project HOW-TO (Housing Operation With Training Opportunity) taught people how to build houses. One of which was built over an old mine shaft and fell in.
